Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams each notched first-place team finishes at the 2005 Hurricane Cross Country Festival at Mohawk Park on Saturday morning, as the Golden Hurricane men claimed their sixth-straight title. This is the first time the women have won the festival since 1999.

Missouri State runners took top individual honors in both the men's and women's race. Michael Bresheras turned in a time of 20:05 on the men's four-mile course, as Kristin Wolkey registered a top-time of 11:19 on the women's two-mile course.

Sophomore Brett Turowski earned the best performance for Tulsa in a time of 20:19 for a fourth-place mark. Classmates Mathew Musengezi, Edwin Henshaw and Joel Stansloski finished in times of 20:53, 20:58, and 21:03, respectively, to record the eighth, ninth and 10th marks. Junior Tad Schoedel rounded out TU's top-five with an 11th-place finish in a time of 21:06.

"It was nice to start the season out at home," Turowski said. "It was great to have some competition to get us going."

On the women's side, senior Lise Olivier tallied a time of 11:26 for a second-place overall mark, while freshman Alex Becker trailed by two seconds, posting a third-place mark in a time of 11:28. Fellow freshman Marissa Saunders and sophomore Breanna Chipney registered a fifth-place finish with a time of 11:30 and an eighth-place mark in a time of 11:43, respectively. Junior Shantel Girtley recorded a time of 11:57 for a 10th-place finish just ahead of Missouri State's Clarissa Codrington. The placing allowed Tulsa to win with 27 points to Missouri State's 28.

"It was great out there today," said Olivier. "There were a lot of people out to support us and it was great to see what we are up against this season. The freshmen have added a new spirit to the team and they did great today."

TU Head Coach Steve Gulley was also excited about today's performances. "It is early in the season but I am happy. We have a young team, but if they get out front and take chances we will do well."
