 The University of Tulsa will host 120th Annual NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships, May 22-31, 2004, at the spectacular Michael D. Case Tennis Center, which was honored by the United States Tennis Association as the 2003 Outstanding Collegiate Tennis Center. The NCAA Tennis Championships are making their first-ever appearance in Oklahoma -- only the fifth time since 1977 outside of Georgia. In fact, the University of Georgia has hosted 23 of the 27 NCAA Championships. The NCAA Championships were played outside of Athens, Georgia, just four times, including Indian Wells, California (1990); Notre Dame, Indiana (1994); Los Angeles, California (1997); and College Station, Texas (2002). The Men's Tennis Championships are the oldest national championships competition recognized by the NCAA. The NCAA Championships record book for the 2003-04 academic year lists college tennis as the first inter-collegiate championships ever: 1883-First National Collegiate Tennis Championships hosted by Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, and sponsored by the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association. |
